August 6. A business model for my dream sports entrepreneurship in action

The social role of sports enterprises is being increasingly recognized at both local and global levels. Sports can influence community cohesion, physical and mental health, social inclusivity, and provide positive role models across society. All these goals can be achieved only through building functioning and efficient organizations, adjusted to specific environments. Entrepreneurs and athletes are similar in many ways. They all have passion, tenacity, vision, selfconfidence, flexibility, boldness, tolerance for fear, among other characteristics. While generosity and idealism are the main engines of most sports’ social entrepreneurs, bottom line is, in many cases, economic and practical.

• What does it take to build sustainable grassroot sports organizations?
• How to gather resources and attract support for social enterprises?
• Can local governments, politicians, professional clubs, or other influencers help?
• How to build community support?
• Are setbacks building blocks towards success?
• Is it possible to make a living, while pursuing a passion for sports and social action?

To seek answers to these questions, we invite you to an imaginary journey that will take us to the U.S., Brazil, Uganda, Bangladesh, and Nigeria.

Marvin Asimwe │Director, Kids for Africa Sports Academy│Uganda

Carolina Pohl│ Businesswoman and Expert in Women’s Football, Owner Partner of Sow Sport│Brazil
